in PFI Updates

Welcome to PFI and the weekly updates – The Hosting Edition. Today’s weekly updates post takes a bit of a turn and focuses on hosting your blog. If you run a self-hosted blog, then you probably already know the importance of having a good provider. While some web hosting companies offer incredibly low rates, choosing a provider simply by cost may not always be the best option.

Just last week I noticed that one of my niche sites had a second domain name pointing to my IP address. I immediately flipped out and began an investigative search to find out who was trying to rip me off! I also sent an email to my hosting provider pair Networks expressing my concern.

Within a few hours of my email that was sent, the hosting company notified me that it was a mistake on their part and they were taking care of the issue. Apparently the other domain had been cancelled and somehow was pointed to my IP address. While I was upset at first, I realized there had been no harm done and was extremely happy with the customer service and support offered by pair Networks.

If you are in the market for a hosting provider, I would recommend using pair Networks. While I don’t promote too many products on PFI – this is one product I have no problem recommending. Another great thing I like about them is that they are an earth friendly company.

Personal Finance Blog of the Week
As part of my effort to meet my personal finance goals for 2009, I plan to visit other personal finance blogs and help promote the good ones anyway I can. Each week I will write a short review of a site that I believe is worthwhile checking out.

  • The Corporate BarbarianThe Corporate Barbarian is a blog that is rich in career, life, and money advice – just as it describes itself. While most personal finance sites focus on getting out of the corporate world or becoming your own boss – The Corporate Barbarian talks about corporate culture and the workplace. I appreciate the uniqueness of this site and is one of my daily reads. I especially like the tips given about Excel and Email where I have picked up some very useful information. Take a few minutes out of your day and go visit – The Corporate Barbarian.

Carnivals
I participated in the following carnivals over the past week. Please check out some of the great reads from these carnivals!

Articles I liked
Here are a couple articles I enjoyed over the past week. Please check them out and enjoy.

1Web Career Girl talks about why you shouldn’t punish yourself for not doing enough when you are your own boss. I can completely relate as I often do this when working on building my passive income streams.

2Fire Finance gives us 7 energy savings tips for this summer.

3Fix My Personal Finance offers some tips for showing your house. This is something very useful for those trying to sell their home in this poor housing market.

4 – Dusty from Chasing The Bull is planning to hold a study on his eHow vs. Infobarrel passive income earnings over the next month. I have not written anything on Infobarrel, so I am interested in the results.

Have an wonderful week!
