Welcome to PFI and the weekly updates – The Host a Blog Carnival Edition. One of my personal finance goals for 2009 was to host a blog carnival (actually two) during the year. I am happy to announce that I am scheduled to host the Money Hacks Carnival on May 27, 2009. Be sure to participate and submit your posts to this carnival!

Blog carnivals have several advantages to help your site grow. Most of the time you are only out the time it takes to submit your post (that you have already written and featured) each week to a carnival. If your post is selected, you would need to spend a few extra minutes and link back to the host site within the next few days. That is about all the work you are required to do.

Here are 3 reasons you should consider participating in a blog carnival -

  1. Increase Traffic – Your traffic will no doubt increase by participating in a blog carnival. You can increase your traffic by simply submitting posts to a carnival and letting the host site do the rest. My best traffic day ever was from an Editor’s pick post in a carnival. That post got read by a really large personal finance blog and then featured in a weekly roundup post which shot my traffic through the roof!
  2. Build Links – Maybe not the most efficient way to build links to your site, but while you are increasing your traffic, you are also building links by participating in blog carnivals.
  3. Gain Exposure – Some of my highest viewed posts on PFI are a result of having an Editor’s pick in a carnival. Exposure can never be a bad thing when growing a blog.

Personal Finance Blog of the Week
As part of my effort to meet my personal finance goals for 2009, I plan to visit other personal finance blogs and help promote the good ones anyway I can. Each week I will write a short review of a site that I believe is worthwhile checking out.

  • Money Hackers Network – The featured personal finance blog for today is a little different this week. The Money Hackers Network is a site where personal finance related blogs can come together and share ideas. It is also a great way to increase your traffic, exposure, and build links to your site. If you are interested in joining a free network, then I suggest you take a look at the Money Hackers site. Be sure to check out and participate in the Money Hacks Carnival while you are there!

Carnivals
I participated in the following carnivals over the past week. Please check out some of the great reads from these carnivals!

Articles I liked
Here are a couple of posts I enjoyed reading over the last week.

1Saving To Invest writes a post about frugality and savings as a new way of life during the recession. This post is similar to the Recession in America series that recently ended on PFI

2Studenomics gives us some budgeting tips that I believe are very important to follow.

3 – Pat from Smart Passive Income writes about a new iPhone App that he and a good friend are about to launch. I will be waiting in anticipation for his follow up status on this neat project. Pat always seems to inspire me to keep pushing along.

4 – Dusty from Chasing The Bull asks – How much money do we waste daily?

Have an wonderful week!
