Motivation behind Passive Family Income

This post is somewhat off topic from my normal personal finance related articles, but I thought it was important to share. Passive Family Income (PFI) is over two months old now. I know, not a long period of time compared to many of the older more established personal finance blogs out there, but an accomplishment for me! As these two months have gone by, I continue to find motivation with this blog from many different resources. Today, I would like to list those resources which keep me motivated and ask other fellow bloggers what keeps them going and motivated.

Here is what motivates me -

  • Success of other bloggers – I consistently find motivation from my fellow bloggers. I read their monthly or weekly updates and status and it helps me keep going. It also provides ideas for future posts on my site.
  • Money – I would be lying if I didn’t say that generating some income from this site wasn’t part of my motivation. As I have mentioned in the past, I did not start PFI to get rich. However, if I can generate a little extra income as a result, it goes a long way in motivation. BTW – As of the end of June, I have not earned 1 cent yet on advertisements for the site.
  • Exercise – I think that exercise is very important for all aspects of my life. I am a runner and find inspiration for PFI when I am out running. It gives me a chance to clear my head and actually generate new ideas for the site. It also enables me to slow things down and notice what is going on around me.
  • Family Budget – Maintaining this site and providing the monthly updates to the budget helps to keep me informed on our budget. It puts the numbers right in front of me and my readers to see. By exposing myself to the real facts of our budget, I am more likely to stay focused on my long term goals.
  • Financial Freedom – My ultimate goal is to obtain financial freedom for my family. I use the term “financial freedom” loosely, but I want to become financially independent someday where I don’t have to go to work and have a “job”. Instead, I want to generate enough income streams (hopefully as passive as they can be) so that it covers our monthly expenditures!

What things help motivate you to keep your blog up and running?

I liked this post a lot. I feel the same way (except about the running!) For me, it also helps me get these ideas out of my head. Before starting my blog it was like my brain was a hamster wheel with all this “stuff” running around and around. My blog helps me sort it all out.

I’m glad you shared your thoughts here. I too, feel that other bloggers (like yourself) help motivate me everyday. I also need to exercise more, as it’s a fantastic way to get fresh ideas and stay focused.
