I have set some lofty goals this year in an effort to build a set of recurring income streams that earn $3,000 per month. The plan is to build these income streams so that they can withstand any major economic disasters while helping to increase my family’s monthly income. Overtime, as I continue to build more and more income from these alternative income streams, I can begin to phase out the active income (my job) that I am earning.
Phasing out my job and building more passive income streams will allow me to have the freedom to become financially independent. In order to reach my goals, I am starting to leverage several online tools that can help build solid income streams.
One of the keys of growing solid income producing niche sites is to leverage tools like Info Barrel and HubPages. These FREE tools are a great way to build links to the content that you own, while producing some additional income along the way. This extra income, combined across many different sources, will make up my miscellaneous income that I plan to grow into $500 per month.
If you are interested in learning more of the specifics about my income generation plan for 2010, I suggest you review my documented SMART Goals. Feel free to let me know what you think – good, bad, or downright ugly!
Here is the monthly breakdown of the income I am building through these miscellaneous sites.
Info Barrel January Results
While I didn’t publish as many Info Barrel (iB) articles as I had hoped, I have started to incorporate them into my other income streams. The intent going forward with iB and other similar platforms is to use them as tools to support niche sites that I own and control. Nothing new to most people working to earn income online, just something new to me.
I published 5 new articles on Info Barrel during January, all with the purpose of building links and sending traffic to sites I own. Here is the breakdown of my Info Barrel earnings from January -
- January (2010)
- AdSense Earnings – $2.57
- Chitika Earnings – $0.00
- Articles Published – 5
- December (2009)
- AdSense Earnings – $1.40
- Chitika Earnings – $0.00
- Articles Published – 3
- November (2009)
- AdSense Earnings – $3.66
- Chitika Earnings – $0.11
- Articles Published – 10
GRAND TOTAL
- Earnings – $7.74
- Articles Published – 18
HubPages December Results
I am taking the same approach I used for my Hubs as I did on Info Barrel – leverage the site to build links and drive traffic to sites I own. Any income generated from these sites directly will be extra incentive to keep plugging away!
I published 3 new articles on HubPages in January, which was less than Info Barrel. The one interesting thing I noticed was that while my Info Barrel articles got about 47% more traffic, I earned considerably more income from my Hubs. This could be a result of several factors, like the content of the articles I have published. I will monitor this closely in the future so that I can maximize my earnings potential.
Here is the breakdown of my Hubs earnings from January -
- January (2010)
- AdSense Earnings – $16.31
- Hubs Published – 3
- December (2009)
- AdSense Earnings – $5.98
- Hubs Published – 0
GRAND TOTAL
- Earnings – $22.29
- Hubs Published – 31
Final Thoughts
This year is going to be fun and exciting, I can just feel it. Now that I have a plan in place, I am more focused than I have been in the past. I have no doubt that I will be successful and when I come across a roadblock, I will move around it and press on.
While the income produced in January for these two sites combined was not huge, it is a starting point that I can look back on. I am busy working to build the necessary foundation required to have successful niche websites. The key to my overall success of building diversified income streams will be measured in part by how successful these building blocks turn out to be.
How was your January earnings? Do you normally generate more income from HubPages than Info Barrel?

Congratz. Your income is slowly increasing. I guess your Hub is aging, so that is gaining authority in google’s eyes.

@Entourage – Thanks. Yes, I have several Hubs that are much older than my Info Barrel articles which probably is bringing in a different type of reader who is more likely to click on ads.

I still have not gotten into Info Barrel properly so can’t answer your question. My Hubs do consistently make me money each month though – not a lot – but it’s nice that it’s both Amazon sales (usually around $10) and then also Adsense (probably around $20). Let’s just hope that these earnings continue long after we’ve stopped doing the work

@Ruth – Are you using Hubs to build links to your niche sites? Are you using any other sites other than Info Barrel and HubPages?

To date, I’m having a lot more success with Hubpages. Although I have over twice as many Hubs (34) as articles on InfoBarrel (14), I think I’ve had a grand total of 3 Adsense clicks on IB articles since I first started submitting there almost a year ago. I’ll continue to use them, but I’m not seeing the earnings I thought I would. I’m hoping that will improve in the future though because I really like the IB site.

@Melinda – I agree. I like the Info Barrel site as well and believe overtime it will continue to grow.

InfoBarrel is a bit of a dud for earnings so far, but I made $22.80 on HubPages in January for some old articles I have on the site. I haven’t written a new Hub in forever!

@Maria – That is nice to see a bit of income from older articles that you have written a long time ago. That is what passive income is all about. I am hoping for good things to come from IB and my Hubs, if nothing more to build links and drive traffic to my sites.
