In an effort to earn $3,000 per month in alternative income by the end of 2010, I need to take advantage of as many online resources as I can. One of the tools that I plan to leverage is Info Barrel. While I am still a newcomer when it comes to publishing online content through Info Barrel, I have plans to focus some attention to the site over the next 6 months.
Another tool that I will include in my arsenal of passive income streams is HubPages. I have not been an active contributor on HubPages in over 3 months, but have a collection of Hubs that I plan to build upon. I am coming to realize that my Hubs provide a decent source of traffic while generating a bit of income as well.
2010 SMART Goals
While defining my 2010 SMART Goals, I noted that I planned to create 6 different sources of alternative income that would each earn at least $500 per month on a recurring basis. The 6th category I defined was labeled as “Miscellaneous” and will be made up of a collection of various income streams. This is where my income generated from Info Barrel, HubPages, and other tools will be captured.
In order to set a baseline for the upcoming months and year, I am publishing my December earnings results for both Info Barrel and HubPages below. As months go by, I hope to track my progress in these monthly reports.
Info Barrel December Results
I had some grand plans to start publishing a lot of content back in December through Info Barrel. Unfortunately, my job and the holidays got in the way. Given the little extra time I had available, I was only able to publish 3 new articles which were all holiday related.
Here is the breakdown of my Info Barrel earnings from December -
- December (2009)
- AdSense Earnings – $1.40
- Chitika Earnings – $0.00
- Articles Published – 3
- November (2009)
- AdSense Earnings – $3.66
- Chitika Earnings – $0.11
- Articles Published – 10
GRAND TOTAL
- Earnings – $5.17
- Articles Published – 13
HubPages December Results
I have published a total of 28 Hubs so far, none in the past 3 months. It was only in November of last year that I started tracking my earnings from these articles. Therefore, December is the first month I have started publishing these results.
Here is the breakdown of my Hubs earnings from December -
- December (2009)
- AdSense Earnings – $5.98
- Hubs Published – 0
GRAND TOTAL
- Earnings – $5.98
- Hubs Published – 28
Traffic is Key
Creating income is actually only a bi-product from publishing content on Info Barrel and HubPages. The main focus is to establish links and drive traffic to my niche sites, all of which I own and control. These niche sites on their own will be responsible for earning $500 each per month that will help to make up the $3,000 total.
As I create more and more content on these sites, it will inevitably push my earnings higher and higher. This is a perfect way to maximize my monthly earnings potential from these free tools. In the end, I am pushing traffic towards sites that I own, which is crucial for long term stability.
Final Thoughts
As 2010 moves along, I will continue to add additional tools and resources to this monthly earnings report. Since I have been publishing content and earning income from Info Barrel and HubPages already, I thought it was important to set a baseline for the new year. I am very excited about the upcoming year and the prospects that these two sites have to offer. Collectively, these and other sites will play a critical part in my success in reaching my end goal for generating $3,000 per month in alternative income!
What kind of earnings do you generate from Info Barrel, HubPages, or any other similar tool?

Hey John,
Info Barrel’s growth has only been going up and up each month (along with their favor in Google, and subsequently, earning’s potential of each writer)….
Have you been following eHow’s cloned articles on their UK site issue? Things are REALLY heating up over there (and not in a good way…)

@Howie – Yeah, I am going to really get going here on Info Barrel & HubPages in the coming months. I am interested in comparing the two against each other with similar articles to see which one performs the best.

I really like the categorised earnings towards your goal, and look forward to seeing how you do with InfoBarrel. My Hubs stil make me money every month, but it is only small. In fact, my Hubs actually do better in Amazon than Adsense, so if I make anymore I might make some product review type Hubs.

@Ruth – Unfortunately, I am locked out of Amazon because of a state law where I live in the US. I have noticed already this year that some of my Hubs are picking up with AdSense which is a good sign.

I’ve had a slow start on Info Barrel. I’ve only got five articles up as yet, getting quite a respectable number of visitors but very little in the way of AdSense clicks.
I think I do need to make my articles a bit more commercially focused, but when all’s said and done I still get the backlinks which is probably the most important thing.

@Des – Yep, backlinks to me are the more important product of writing on iB & HubPages. The earnings are just a little icing on the cake!

In regards to Ehow, they are removing all of the mirrored articles on the UK site. They sent out an email last night. Ehow is still my biggest money-maker and after putting 15 articles up at Info Barrel, I’m not thrilled by the earnings. I will continue to publish there since they are still growing and I hope the earnings will improve.
I’m also going ahead with Hubpages. I’ve published 33 hubs in the last 4 months, most of which are linked to other niche sites of mine, and they seem to be improving in both views and earnings.

@Melinda – Yep, right now, eHow is still where to make the big bucks quickly. Overtime, I can see the other sights getting better, just not for a while.

Hey, thanks for your article, it was really helpful and I am going to look into this for myself. I have started using adsense, but I am very new to it all so not sure if I am doing right or not. Time will tell. If I can earn a passive income like this then I will be able to stay home and look after my son rather than going back to work part time.
thanks again.

@Money – That is what building passive income is all about. Having the ability to make choices, like staying home with your son. Best of luck to you.
