The holidays are just around the corner and many people are starting their shopping and making plans to celebrate. This is a time of year that my wife and I always look forward to. We enjoy sitting back and relaxing with our families and friends and thinking about the things we are thankful for.
Unfortunately, there are many people here in the U.S. as well as other parts of the world who don’t have the opportunity to celebrate or give thanks. Instead, they are busy trying to find their next meal and a warm place to sleep at night. The global recession has forced many people to make sacrifices and changes in their daily lives. For some it has meant losing their jobs, sometimes their homes, and even a warm meal on the table.
So how can we help? One thought is to take some of that hard earned passive income and donate it. I have put together a quick list of ideas on how you can start donating today!
7 Easy Ideas for Donating Passive Income
Here are a few simple ideas for donating some of your passive income. Remember that you don’t have to donate a lot to make a difference in someones life.
- Toys for Tots – The next time you are out shopping, take $20 of your passive income earnings and purchase a gift for Toys for Tots. That money may not seem that significant to you, but will put a smile on a child’s face this holiday season.
- Donate to a Food Bank – What’s worse than a child with no presents to open on Christmas morning? A child with barely any food to eat. Whether you want to admit it or not, there are kids with very little food to eat living right here in the U.S. and other parts of the world. Take the time and donate to a local Food Bank or sponsor a Thanksgiving dinner for a needy family this holiday.
- Check with Local Schools – Check with your local school system to see if you can donate items like new toothbrushes, soap, and other toiletry items. You could use some of your eHow or AdSense earnings to purchase these products that you and I may take for granted. There are plenty of children who don’t have access to toothbrushes, warm coats, and even soap. You can make a huge difference just by spending a few dollars.
- Donate Squidoo Earnings – If you write content for Squidoo, they actually make it easy to donate your earnings to charity. This is a perfect way to give back to your favorite charitable foundation directly from a passive income source!
- Look for the PayPal Donate Button – If you earn any amount of passive income online, there is a strong possibility that you have a PayPal account with some money sitting in it. The next time you find a PayPal donate button on your favorite charitable site, think about passing along some of your earnings to a good cause. The March of Dimes is one charitable organization that makes it very easy to donate some of your passive income by using your PayPal account.
- Sign Up for Sponsored Tweets – How many Twitter followers do you have? Would you be willing to Tweet information out to your followers from non-profit and charitable organizations? Sponsored Tweets offers this service to it’s members. This is a perfect way to give back and help a charity get important information out and it won’t cost you a dime!
- Donate Money by Tweeting – Similar to Sponsored Tweets, Ad.ly is another site you can sign up for that will pay you money to Tweet. Once you start earning money, you can donate all or a portion of your earnings to a charity directly from the site. If you can’t get enough of Twitter and don’t mind submitting a few advertisers Tweets, Ad.ly may be for you!

Hey John,
nice article….I was wondering if You’d mind if I sent you a copy of the eBook now?….by the time all is said and done, we will have 4-5 complementary guides, as well….
….it still needs some formatting and I want to pass through it for grammar/spelling a few more times….but, at 97 pages (so far), it’ll give you a pretty good guage of the quality we strove for…..I do have ALOT that I’d like to add to it, still….I do forsee a final produce of about 110-120 pages…..
…if you don’t mind, I can send it off to you…..if you like it, it would be an honor to have you maybe write up a little something about it….I could then include a picture of you/a direct clickable link to your blog HERE…

This is a great post! I always like the posts that recommend ways to give back. With so many scammy marketers out there it makes me smile to see those who want to do good
My personal goal is to use the time that passive income will eventually give me and to donate that. I have volunteered places in the past and can say it’s very fulfilling and a great way to develop yourself as a person as well as do good! But obviously time is difficult to find and these are fantastic alternatives.
@Ruth – Thanks. I am thinking of donating 10% of my passive income this upcoming year as a way to give back. I am still playing around with the numbers, but this is something that I really would like to start doing.
