Do you use the internet as a tool to find helpful information? Have you ever purchased anything online? If you answered yes to either question, then you may want to check out SwagBucks.
SwagBucks is a tool that allows you to make money online by earning points that can be redeemed for gift cards and other prizes. Points or “Swag Bucks” are earned in a variety of methods at no cost to the user. Depending on the number of points accumulated, you can redeem them for prizes like Amazon and Starbucks gift cards. For those who spend a lot of time using this service, you could redeem your SwagBucks for more expensive items like an iPod Touch or flat panel television.
So what are the different ways to make money using SwagBucks? Check out the list below for more details.
Ways to Make Money Online Using SwagBucks
There are 5 different ways to make money using SwagBucks. While the methods vary, they are all FREE and don’t require any out of pocket expense.
- Search – The most common way to make money online with SwagBucks is to earn points by searching the web. Instead of using one of the more popular search engines like Google or Yahoo!, you can use the SwagBucks search engine to earn points that can be redeemed for gift cards and other prizes.
- Special Offers – I have not participated in any special offers to date using SwagBucks. However, it seems like they have some decent offers that you can sign up for and earn additional points. For example, if you join Netflix through their site, you can earn 75 points just for signing up. If you are thinking about starting a blog or website and need a domain name, you can open up a Go Daddy account and earn 150 SwagBucks for spending at least $5. These are just a couple of the special offers where you can earn additional points.
- Trading In Electronic Devices – One of the opportunities to earn a little extra money on SwagBucks is to take advantage of their Trade-In program. You can turn in your old cell phones, MP3 Players, and video games & consoles for Swag Bucks! While the amount of points you earn is not a lot, it beats putting your used electronic devices into a land fill. Regardless the number of points you earn, SwagBucks still offers a pre-paid shipping label which allows you to recycle your old devices at no cost to you!
- Online Shopping – A nice way to make some extra money through SwagBucks is to shop online using their portal. Just the other day, I spent over $400 at Wal-Mart using Swag Bucks. As a result of my purchase, I earned enough points to get $10 worth of Amazon Gift Cards. I will note that there are some services like EBates that may have better returns on purchases you make. If you are looking to maximize your online shopping return, be sure to check out several of these services to find the best option for you.
- Promote & Invite Friends – This service also allows you to promote their product through Email, referral links, and website banners in return for points. They will match the points your referrals earn up to 100 for each friend. This is where I find the real value of using SwagBucks! I really like that they offer the referral points, which makes it a bit more “passive”. Any income stream that allows me to earn points and dollars based on actions taken by others is a win in my book!
Final Thoughts
Am I going to get rich off of using SwagBucks? Probably not. That doesn’t mean that using this service is not worth the effort. I believe that every little bit of alternative income you can earn is worth the effort, as long as you are not spending too much time on it. While I may not treat SwagBucks as a passive income source, it is still a worthwhile tool that can be used to put some money back in your pocket!
Do you use Swag Bucks? Have you taken advantage of all their ways to earn Swag Bucks? I would love to hear your opinions!

I absolutely love Swagbucks. Typically, I use it to get Amazon gift cards, since you can buy just about anything there! In fact, my last three pairs of running shoes have been compliments of Swagbucks!
@Dusty – I think I first got introduced to Swag Bucks from Chasing the Bull. Anyways, I turned my wife on to it and she is hooked. We just got done using $40 worth of Amazon gift cards to help pay for a new laptop!
Swagbucks is a great and easy way to make money online. I just published a page a couple days ago on my blog about Swagbucks myself. I have made almost $300 off SwagBucks this year. The vast majority of that is from referrals. Eventually there won’t be many people left to refer but until then I’m going to enjoy my swag.
@Andy – Nice return! $300 is great income just for referring others and searching the web.
Swagbucks gets my vote for the most fun and entertaining site that also rewards its members with great prizes and real money. I’ve cashed in for $30 in amazon rewards and $5 paypal so far since joining in mid December. I’ve got enough for $10 more Amazon rewards but I’m letting my SB’s accumulate for now. There’s no better FREE opportunity than Swagbucks!
@bestmommy – Yep, I agree. The first thing I do before I go to a website like Google or Yahoo! is just type it in the search. At least once per day I earn points just from doing that!
Is this for real? If so anyone have a referral code they want me to use?
@Rich – Yes, SwagBucks is legitimate way to earn points just by using their search engine.
I just joined Swagbucks about a month ago, and I’ve already cashed out $15 thru Paypal. I know you get more bang for your buck with Amazon giftcards, but i don’t buy very much stuff on Amazon so I’m going with the cash. I only use it for the searches, and I do enter Swag Codes when I see them.
Surveys are a great place to start if you’re new to generating money online, but you gotta steer clear of the bad sites. You’ll get hosed and not make any money. But it can work correctly if done correctly
Love SB, but there’s nothing passive about it
