Happy Halloween! Today is the last day of October (my favorite month by the way) and I wanted to provide an update on my articles for eHow. I currently have written 9 articles that range in topics from wine to personal finance. I fell behind my original goal to have 16 – 20 articles published by the end of October, but I have seen a lot of success so far. I wrote 6 articles in September and have written 3 in October. I had originally set a goal to write 8 – 10 per month to build a nice solid base of articles. During the month of October, I started to see my page views really pick up along with my earnings. The amount of time that I have spent on each article has been limited (15 – 30 minutes per article), so I am very encouraged about the passive income opportunities in writing these articles. The more I see my page views and earnings increase, the more articles I plan to write! The list below shows my current earnings per month to date -

  • September – $1.46
  • October – $7.82

I have been doing a lot of research in the past several weeks on tips and tricks that other eHow authors have experienced. Basically, writing articles for eHow is no different than publishing articles on a blog. You need to come up with creative titles and include key word phrases in your article. If you are interested in earning income by writing these articles, then you need to write for Google AdSense. Below is a list of my 9 articles with stats on publish date, page views, and earnings.

Of my 9 articles, only 4 of them have actually earned any income, with my covered call article bringing in 76% of my earnings. The main point here is that it is important to be diversified. If I didn’t have that one article, then I may not be as upbeat and positive as I currently am. I also believe that it is important to keep writing articles on topics that people desire while also focusing on keywords.

Do you write articles for eHow, Associated Content, or any other provider like these? What kind of success have you had?

I wrote for AC a long time ago but I guess my style of writing was not popular because I only made a few cents. I stopped because it was really not a good fit for me.

I write from a very personal point of view and not a ‘how to’ point of view so I guess my blog is the best place for me to be right now.

Congratulations on the big jump from September to October….this is just encouragement for you to keep going.

I disagree with you that you have to write for google. Too often are new blogger being told to start writing with extra keywords just so the search engines could pick them up and put you in the top position. Let me tell you something, if you are just stuffing keywords onto your articles then even if you score first on google on certain keywords and you get a decent amount of traffic, you won’t gain permanent readership..

Anyways, nice progress on the Ehow articles. My question to you is, don’t you think that you could have made more $$$ by posting these articles on your own blog?

LuLuGal – Thanks, the amount is small but also encouraging!

BloggingBanks – Thanks for the advice. I am still a rookie in the blogging world and take any advice I can get. I am not trying to stuff keywords into posts but I do look to add them where I can. You pose an interesting question about eHow vs. posting the articles on my blog. Currently eHow has a lot more exposure for my articles than I can get with my blog. However, in the long-term you are probably correct.

If you are planning to write consistently, then blogging is by far a much better way to make money because you can build a larger and larger reader base.

PFI,

You are correct that ehow will probably get you more exposure in the short term. But then with your own blog you have much more control over advertising methods compared to ehow. For example if you used a CPM type ad network where you are paid $1.00 for every 1000 page views in addition to adsense while still getting the number of page views you might have made more $$.

However I also agree with you that since your blog is a new one getting exposure is important for you.

I just interviewed a gal who is making $1,000+ a month from eHow. She started a year ago and has 200 some odd articles up.

The interview is up on my blog if you (or anyone) wants to take a look at it.

Lindsay – Thanks for the interview on your blog. I went and checked it out. I enjoy those types of posts as they are very motivating. $1,000+ in passive income is incredible from eHow!
