Hi John, I think your power saving strategy is great, and you should share it. There might be people who won't follow the advice since this would require a change in the lifestyle they are used to. But there are those who are really concerned and wants to find ways to lessen bills.

Check exterior wall outlets and install insulation plates behind the face plate.Installing a set-back thermostat that will automatically lower the house temperature during times you are away or sleeping and raise them back up when you want them higher is a great way to save up to 10 or more on your heating bill. This will allow you to make the same payment each month throughout the year.If new windows arent an option consider sealing your windows with a plastic shrinkwrap that can be found at home improvement stores.Keep your furnace tuned up. Make sure that you are changing your air filter in your furnace roughly once per month depending on housing conditions.

We use programmable thermostats which help control temps. We also heat up a magic bag in the winter when we are cold instead of turning up the heat. Works great. I love those things.

DH and I are getting radical. We have a solar lantern that we use to go into the garage to retrieve items and as a nightlight. I handwash laundry (there's just three of us, and I'm a SAHM). We will be moving out to the country in a couple of yrs, and plan to build a much smaller and more energy-efficient house w/o central heating and air.

Meantime, we pretty do the suggestions in the post.
