Welcome to the Carnival of Cashflow Consciousness #3 – The Wastin’ Away Edition! First of all, I would like to thank Money Energy for giving me the opportunity to host this great new carnival focused on passive and alternative income, generating positive cash flow, dividend investing, and more! If you are interested in hosting a future carnival, please contact Money Energy for more details. Be sure to submit your best passive income articles to the 4th installment of this blog carnival that is expected to go live in a couple of weeks.

Today’s theme centers around a dream that I often look to when I need motivation. That dream comes from my absolute favorite musical artist – Jimmy Buffett! Yes, I am a die hard Parrothead and have seen Mr. Buffett in concert more times then I care to admit. Now only if I had invested all that money I spent on going to concerts, I could have reached my goals already!

No – my dream does not involve sitting on the beach drinking margaritas every day (although it does sound nice). Instead, I vision having the freedom to do the things that I want to in life with my family instead of constantly worrying about money. I would love to be able to take my family sailing in the Caribbean for weeks on end – just as Jimmy talks about in his songs. In years past, these thoughts were only a dream that I knew would be difficult to achieve. That is until I discovered the power of passive income and how it can push you to become financially independent.

Enough about me and my dreams – let’s get to the great posts for this week. I took the opportunity as the host to pick only the top notch articles dealing with passive income, alternative income, etc. As with hosting any carnival, there were some very hard decisions on which posts to include and which ones to leave out. As a result, 21 posts made the cut and many more were very close. Thanks to all the authors who submitted their work.

Editor’s Picks

MargaritaNow that the weather is finally warm here in the U.S. – sit back and enjoy a refreshing ice cold margarita while reading today’s editor’s picks! There were a lot of great submissions, but these few articles were top notch in my book. The top picks include useful tips on starting a business from home, information on becoming financially independent, and an older post highlighting 10 real life examples of how to build enormous wealth.

Baker presents How To Launch A Business From Home posted at Man Vs. Debt.

Pinyo presents Earn More And Spend Less Is Your Ticket To Financial Freedom posted at Moolanomy Personal Finance.

Silicon Valley Blogger presents Top 10 Wealth Building Ways Of Ordinary People posted at The Digerati Life.

Portfolio Income

Portfolio IncomeI have recently related the following line from Jimmy’s hit – Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes to the stock market.
“… Oh, yesterdays over my shoulder,
So I cant look back for too long
There’s just too much to see waiting in front of me
And I know that I just cant go wrong…”

While things have been very rough in the investing community over the past several months, it is still important to invest wisely and move on. As long as you learn from your mistakes (as well as others) and complete your due diligence in the market – you can create a lifetime of portfolio and dividend income!

FMF presents I’m Still Buying posted at Free Money Finance.

Dividend Growth Investor presents Colgate Palmolive (CL) Dividend Stock Analysis posted at Dividend Growth Investor.

The Div-Net presents Stock Analysis: Nucor Corp. (NUE) posted at The DIV-Net.

Manshu presents List of Gold ETFs posted at OneMint.

Ben presents Stock Dividends 101 posted at MoneySmartLife.com.

ABC presents Stock Prices Do Not Represent Stock Value (or Company Value) posted at ABCs of Investing.

Darwin presents The Riskiest ETFs on Earth – 3X Sector ETF Short/Long posted at Darwin’s Finance.

Alternative Income

Alternative IncomeRegardless if you enjoy the songs of Jimmy Buffett or not, you cannot ignore the success he has had creating alternative income streams that continue to pay over time. Creating alternative income from sources other than you or your spouse’s job is so important – especially during this tough economic recession. While the majority of us will never be rock star’s, you need to be creative and think outside the box when it comes to building these sources of income.

BloggingBanks presents Chase Checking $125 Bank Bonus Coupons posted at Blogging Banks.

Marketing Ace presents Internet Marketing for Beginners: Marketing On EBay Part II posted at Internet Marketing Ace.

Cash Flow (General)

RetirementHow does your cash flow? Are you losing ground each month and going deeper into debt? Or are you building income streams that return positive cash flow? Maybe you are somewhere in between? Creating positive cash flow is a necessary step to becoming financially independent and living out your dreams. I can picture it now – that beach chair in the sand, watching the waves coming in, and having the time of my life playing with my children!

The Smarter Wallet presents Investing In Stocks and Bonds: Some Investment Basics posted at The Smarter Wallet.

Patrick @ Cash Money Life presents What is investing? posted at Cash Money Life.

Praveen presents Easy Ways to Generate Cash posted at My Simple Trading System.

Deposit Accounts presents Don’t Forget to Plan for Windfall Money posted at Deposit Accounts.

Passive Income

Die While I'm LivinThe song titled Growing Older But Not Up is one of my favorite Buffett songs. A particular quote from that song is something I think about every day when building my streams of passive income“… Id rather die while I’m living than live while I’m dead …”. It can be very difficult striking a balance between saving for the future and spending money now. Building streams of passive income and becoming financially independent can allow you to live the life you want now instead of saving up to live the life you want when you are retired!

Glowing Face Man presents Short Term Assets vs. Long Term Assets posted at Glowing Face Man.

Steven Chang presents Passive Income Basics posted at Earn Passive Income By Starting An Internet Business – How To’s | Tips & Strategies.

jim presents Ally Bank Review posted at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity.

Melchor Reyes presents Property Lien – How Do Property Liens Work posted at tax lien investing.

KC Lau presents Why Robert T. Kiyosaki is a best-selling author? posted at KCLau’s Money Tips.

That concludes our carnival for today. As a side note – I took the liberty to move a few posts into different categories to enhance the overall carnival post. As a final reminder – be sure to get your posts submitted to the next edition of the Carnival of Cashflow Consciousness.

For those not familiar with Jimmy Buffett songs, the term “Wastin’ Away” comes from his top hit song titled Margaritaville

Nice job, the carnival looks great. Can you believe I don’t think I’ve ever heard any Jimmy Buffett? At least, not that I can recall from memory! Looking forward to reading SVB’s post.
