Finding the time to build passive income streams while holding down a full time job can be very difficult. Balancing a job, family, friends, and household duties can be overwhelming by themselves. Add in the required time to devote to growing multiple income streams and it is enough to make you want to quit before you even get started.
What if there was a way to add back a few minutes or even hours into your day by cutting out other activities? Becoming more efficient and reducing time wasting tasks all together can be the difference in earning a decent passive income or never getting started.
Here are 9 suggested tips on how to add a few minutes back into your day.
9 Secrets to Add Time Back in Your Day
- Stop with the Emails – Reading emails can take up several hours during a given week. Whether it be work related email or personal accounts, try reducing the amount of time you take to review them every day. One option of saving time is to read personal emails every other day or even once a week if you can.
- Hire out Jobs Around the Home – I am a frugal person by nature but sometimes it just makes sense to hire out some of the work around your home. For example, mowing your lawn can take several hours per week depending on the size of your yard. Hiring a lawn service to cut your grass could put several hours back into your week.
- Work From Home – Commuting to work can take up several hours per week for some, depending on the distance and area you live in. One option to put some time back into your day is to ask your boss if you can work from home one day per week (or even more if you think you can). Use this extra time on building your business or passive income.
- Quit Surfing the Net – It can be very easy to waste several hours each day surfing the internet and not even realize it. Try to limit your web surfing activities as much as possible as this is an inefficient use of your time that could be used elsewhere.
- Work Through Lunch – While it is nice to take a break at work, working through your lunch can put an hour back into your day. Use it to finish work for your job and leave an extra hour early, or use it to focus on building your passive income.
- Batch Your Cooking – It take me 20 to 30 minutes every evening to pack my lunch for work the next day. Instead of spending this amount of time 5 evenings per week, I could batch this work every Sunday and spend less than 1 hour total to pack a lunch for all 5 days of the week. This method can also be used for cooking meals during the week.
- Stop Watching Television – Television is the biggest time waster for many. Try cutting out one hour per day and use it instead to work on your passive income. Think you can watch television while working on building passive income at the same time? While you think you may be multitasking, you really are distracting yourself and are not being efficient with your time.
- Use Wait Time Efficiently – How many hours do you waste every week by waiting in lines or for an appointment? To add more time back into your day, keep a notebook handy with you at all times. The next time you are waiting for an appointment, pull out your notebook and use this time for brainstorming your thoughts and activities for passive income.
- Limit Your Driving – Each week, people spend hours and hours in their cars. Try to limit your drives as much as possible by batching your trips if you can. Another option is avoiding trips all together. For example, instead of driving to the gym, go running or exercise at your home.
While these time savings tips will not save you several hours each day on their own, collectively they can really add up. Just putting 30 minutes back into your day can add up over the course of one month. The key is to use this extra time you have created to your advantage instead of wasting it on other inefficient tasks!
