Earn Income

There are plenty of reasons why you may want to open a HubPages account. A Hubber can test out the competition for keywords, build external back links to their own website, or simply follow their passion for writing. Another reason why people join the site is for the potential to earn passive income.

Since HupPages is a FREE Web 2.0 site, there is a lot to like about using this tool to diversify your income. While earning income through a site like this takes a lot of hard work, the potential benefits can payoff well into the future. One of the nice things about HubPages is that the site offers several different income sources to its members, which I have detailed below.

6 Possible Income Streams

HubPages offers 6 different opportunities to earn income after opening an account. Several of the sources of income can be generated directly from your own published content (a.k.a. Hub), while there are a couple of opportunities to earn income from other Hubbers.

  1. AdSense – Hubbers can generate pay per click (PPC) income by linking their Google AdSense account with their HubPages account. Once this affiliate setting is created, there is no need to take any additional action on the placements of ads. To view earnings generated from Hubs, a writer would simply log into their AdSense account to get the up to date earnings information.
  2. Kontera – Another pay per click option, setting up Kontera is a very simple process. Kontera offers an alternative option to AdSense by using the in-text advertising model. Both AdSense and Kontera can be setup together on a Hub which increases a Hubbers earnings potential.
  3. Amazon – Amazon capsules can be added directly to a Hub, giving the member yet another option for generating income. Simply link your Amazon Associates account and then add capsules targeting specific products related to the content in each of your Hubs.
  4. eBay – Have an existing eBay Partner Network account? If so, you can link this account to your HubPages account for a fourth income source from your Hubs. Similar to Amazon, you can add eBay capsule to your content and begin earning affiliate income.
  5. Referral Income – By referring other members to HubPages, you can earn 10% of the total Hub impressions. This percentage comes off of the HubPages 40%, so there is no direct impact to any of your referrals.
  6. Traffic Referral Program – The traffic referral program allows members to provide links to Hubs from outside of the site. These external links are setup using a unique tracker and can be added to any blog or external website. If a reader clicks on this external link to the Hub, the referrer is eligible to earn any referral impressions for up to 2 hours.

Earn Multiple Streams of Income

HubPages offers 4 income stream opportunities that can be added directly to a published Hub. A member can also earn 10% of the earnings that are generated from new members they refer, in addition to the traffic referral program that is provided. These opportunities don’t even cover the potential to earn income through affiliate marketing (i.e. One Week Marketing), or other indirect money making opportunities.

Becoming a member of HubPages can be a nice way to earn alternative income, in addition to all the other features the site offers. Given that it is FREE, there are few things to dislike about the site.

Are you a member of HubPages? What is your most successful income stream from the site?

Hi John,

This is Jonathan from Kontera. Thanks for bringing up Kontera In-text links as Hubpages revenue stream. We’re very proud to offered through Hubpages and are great way to monetize any type of text heavy website.

What makes Kontera so effective is our Contextual Technology, an algorithm that rather than just scanning for keywords like competing networks, actually reads your web pages for meaning. This added level of targeting is how we assure that we’re providing you with the highest CTR and best CPC ads.

Another advantage of Kontera is our exclusive ad inventory from such big brand names as Microsoft, Dove, L’Oreal, Sprint, Toyota, National Geographic, Kmart, and more. These premium, often Rich-Media ads have the most eye catching visuals, offer the best possible CPC, and can only be found on the Kontera Network.

For anyone interested in joining us on the Kontera Network, we’re currently offering new publishers a 70% revenue share, which is the best in the industry. We also are extending to new publishers a $50 bonus if they get at least 25,000 U.S. page views during their first 30 days on the network. Additionally, we recently lowered our minimum payout threshold from $100 to $50 across all payment methods.

You can learn more about the Kontera Network by visiting our Publishers Page: http://www.kontera.com.publishers

Thanks,

- Jonathan Cohen

I do like HubPages, John….it certainly has a tremendous amount of opportunity and potential, as a leading web property online. I would still keep my eyes on Info Barrel though… ;)

I removed Kontera from my hubs because you don’t accumulate income earned if you earn less than $10/month (or $5 I forget) – which seemed unfair IMHO. I also was worried that it was reducing my Adsense CLR. I still make excellent money month in month out from hubs I haven’t touched for years – real passive income
