@Doctor - Congrats on getting married and good luck. My best advice is to share all your passive income ideas with your spouse, as two minds are better than one.

I just got married and and starting to realize that I am going to need to generate some significant passive income to be happy. We did our budget and its already cutting it close. In order for us to set aside money for the future ANDDDD enjoy ourselves now, we NEED to get busy.

Nice reminders of why we do it! IMO passive income is not an option, it's mandatory if you want to reclaim your life. Even if we don't make it to four-hour work weeks, we all have to make our money work harder for ourselves. I call this whole concept life leverage; I wrote a couple of articles on it. The sooner you get on it, the better. I can't imagine having kids and not having much time to spend with them.... I know that caused a lot of problems in my own family growing up - it just causes alot of friction - and I'm talking about BOTH parents - it's just not enough for only a mom (because face it, how many dads choose to stay at home with their wife working? I think I know of one.) to be around. In fact, I think that makes things even more unbalanced and problematic.

The only caution I would add to this is not to get so caught up in terms of hours you are putting in at the start up part of your passive income ventures, that you fail to spend time in the present with your children. I am preaching to myself here, because I love putting passive income ventures together, but I often have to remind myself that I need to spend time with family now as if I were already free of the rat race.

Steve’s last blog post..Best Way to Ensure Failure: Don't Follow This Advice
