Writing content on eHow to build passive income is all about momentum and motivation to me. Over the past several months, I have had good days where I turn out 5 articles in one day and over 20 in a week. Then there are the other times like this month where I have only posted 3 articles in total. I find it much easier to publish my articles in batches, which is part of the reason why having the momentum plays a critical role.
Just this past week, Jeremy from How to Make Money on eHow left a comment on PFI on one of my eHow articles. I went and checked out his site and was immediately motivated after seeing his eHow success. From all accounts, this eHow writer is well on his way to earning $1,000 per month which is my ultimate goal. He is currently earning close to $600 per month and has the momentum to shoot past $1,000!
As a result of seeing what Jeremy is doing on eHow, I have decided to set some goals for next month.
August eHow Goals
I have decided to step things up next month and challenge myself. After crossing over the $100 monthly earnings mark this past week, I have additional motivation to keep this income stream moving along. As a result of finding new inspiration and motivation, I am challenging myself to publish 100 eHow articles during the month of August!
In order to reach 100 articles next month and stay focused, I need to publish about 23 articles per week. Therefore, I will try to keep with a schedule of publishing 4 articles per day Monday – Friday and the remaining articles required over the weekend. I tend to slack off on the weekends for whatever reason, so most of my content will come during the week.
Earnings Projections
Now that I know how to maximize my eHow earnings using keyword research, I am confident these 100 articles will really accelerate my earnings. I am on pace to earn around $.81 per article this month. However, 56 of my articles (which were written early on) will probably not earn a cent during July. My top money earner’s are all recent articles published using a set of guidelines that I now follow.
The bottom line is that these next 100 articles should average well over $.81 per month in income. I believe that with this batch of articles, I can reach $500 per month by the end of this year. Does $500 seem to high to set as a goal? With a lot of hard work and sacrifice, I believe that I can now reach this mark by the end of the year!
Are you interested in accelerating your eHow earnings? Maybe you have posted a few articles, but just haven’t gotten the hang of it yet. There are people just like you earning over a $1,000 each month on a recurring basis just by writing “How To” articles. If you are new to eHow, one place to start is by checking out a great resource called – How to Earn Passive Income on eHow.com: Maximize Your Online Earnings. I purchased this resource several months ago and have made my money back within the first month using the guidelines laid out.
Who Else is with Me?
So now that I have challenged myself to get things moving, who else is with me? Is anyone up for the 100 eHow articles in August challenge? It would be great to get a few other writers to come along on this journey to help motivate everyone.
I will be posting my weekly status during the month in a weekend article here on PFI. If anyone is interested in joining me, let me know and I will include your results as well.

Congrats on surpassing the $100 mark. I am stuck at around $75, but I have not had the time to publish any new articles in a while.
In August, I am going to try and create 100 Infobarrels and HubPages, in lieu of eHow. This way I will have 100 articles on at least 3 different platforms, in case something happens to one of them. If an article I create for IB or HP will actually fit eHow’s guidelines, I will rework it and get it published there as well.
After publishing more than 50 articles on EzineArticles last month, I have finally figured out how to create quality articles fast. I am hoping to do this again in August.
Good luck my friend! I wish you well. $500 is totally obtainable considering the quality you continue to produce!

@Dusty – Thanks. I also started writing on HubPages this month and that will be my next challenge come September. Sounds like you have a very good strategy by building a solid set of articles on three different platforms.

This is a great challenge! And, even though I don’t write for eHow, I’ll still be looking forward to all your updates. I have kind of been doing this for Hubpages and now have 45, though I never oficially decided and still don’t know if I’ll get 100 simply because I have too much other client work. But in the future I also want to do infobarrels like the commenter above.
How are you doing your keyword research? Do you try to go for less competitive keywords so you don’t have to build many backlinks?

@Web Career Girl – My keyword research for eHow is a little different than for other niche sites I own. I don’t look at the competition as much and select words that have a high AdSense projected payout. I plan to document my 100 article experience and will share my results.
I find that writing a Hub takes me much longer to complete than one on eHow. Maybe it is the fact that I am new to HubPages, but I don’t think I could publish 100 Hubs in one month. I am averaging about 1 per day right now.

Good job on setting a specific goal. This has been my key to success! My current goal is to reach $1,000 a month by September. I know that you can hit the $500 mark before the years end. I have a feeling that if you stay motivated that you can hit that mark by November no problem.
The key is writing quality articles that have the proper keywords. I just found a new tool to add to my arsenal for searching keywords. I will be making a post about it today.
Best of luck!
Jeremy

@Jeremy – I look forward to reading about your journey to $1,000!

You can definitely achieve your goals — just keep at it!
Question for you though. As for the blogger making $600 to $1000 a month, do you know how long it took them to reach that type of income?

@Gooroo – I think he took him about 2 months to hit $600 but it looks like he has been putting in a lot of hours to get there.
It has taken me 11 months to get past $100.

I’m making more than $100 on eHow now, but like you it took a long time to get there. Diversity is definitely the key, though. And don’t forget to keep all of your eHow articles backed up in a Word file. They like to delete them every once in a while, and you can take the deleted ones and put them up elsewhere.

@LS – Great point on backing up your articles. I started doing this recently in the event an article got deleted (which I had 4 of them removed so far). Or worse yet, eHow goes under.
If you make a backup, at least you can post the material elsewhere.

What a fun (and hopefully very rewarding) challenge! For the usual geographic reasons, I’m not on eHow, but I think I’ll have a go at upping my ante over on Triond. I find them easier and quicker to do than Squidoo lenses or hubs on Hubpages – although I seriously need to put some effort into the latter, having only written one hub so far!
Good luck with your challenge. Looking forward to hear your conclusions.

@Neil – So tell me more about Triond? In regards to Hubs, it take me a lot longer writing a hub than it does an eHow article. Some of that is just being new to HubPages.

I started on Triond as a way to get some more backlinks to Squidoo lenses. It is a straight article writing site – rather than a module-based platform like Squidoo or Hubpages – which is why I find it faster. I haven’t figured out the payment system yet, but in the first 7 months had only written 6 articles (hence my aim after your blog post to increase that to 100 by end of month) – ie I would not expect to have made much from it.
It was looking like 1cent per 10 hits and with Ad revenue split 50:50 (if someone clicks an ad on ‘your’ article). However, I’ve got an article I wrote yesterday jump up to 20 views fairly quickly but with no income as yet – I think their model may be something secret like lensrank on Squidoo, and they won’t publicise it for fear of people just ‘playing the system’.
Triond is a series of subject platforms, so if I write about stock markets it ends up on a site called ‘Bizcovering’; music articles end up on ‘Musicouch’ and recipes end up on ‘Notecook’.
They get some traffic in for you as it’s in their interest if they get half the ad revenue; nevertheless, I get many-fold more visitors from Squidoo and other self-promotion activities – but every little helps!

I started Writing for Ehow on 21 July 2009. I am very new to this however since the 21st I have earned around $20 dollars. This is not bad right? Consider this, That is only 13 days and I have already on avg. made $1.53 a day. I currently only have 75 articles so thats around 5 or so a day. I have had help however Jeremy (who is mentioned here on PFI) http://makemoneyonehow.com/ Has given me great help! his website and the information he gives is dead on! He currently just made over $600 last month (JULY) and is well on his way to $1000 this month. I am modeling my passive income plan based on his. My current plan is to atleast have 200 article by the end of this month. Thats around 130 more articles this month seems like alot right? No! thats only 4.3 per day. If I do this I will be well on my way to making $137 dollars per month, keeping in mind this is my first full month of writing for ehow. If i can maintain this rate i will be making over $700 bucks per month in 4 months. Thank you PFI, Thank your Jeremy from ehow http://makemoneyonehow.com/

@Levi – Best of luck to you in your passive income journeys. I think breaking the numbers down per day makes publishing that many articles in a month seem less of a monster.
BTW – Have you seen any drop in earnings in August so far? I am down a lot from where I normally am this time in the month.

I seen a slight drop in earning until today, I made 3.62$ for yesterday this is the first time I have made over 3 bucks in a day. I have seen that one of my articles is making me almost 1 dollar per day, and I am going to start writing more articles in that field.

That is great! My earnings came back up a little today but still not on pace with July. I think I ended up averaging $4 per day in July and got up closer to $7 or $8 at the end of the month.
Unbelievable. After just one day of my challenge, the rules changed on Triond. Every article now must have an image. For me, that’s the slowest part of the writing process, as permissions are needed from copyright owners, which can take time. I guess I’ll shift emphasis to 100 ‘things’ in August, so Triond, Hubpages and Squidoo lenses all combined.
@PFI – if you start on Triond, it is worth delving a little deeper into the income model. I’m not sure that what I said in my reply above is correct, as I keep seeing conflicting messages. Some say publishers get paid for visits and 50% Adsense; others say just visits.

OK. I am in. I have decided to delay my IB and HP experiment due to circumstances beyond my control, and the fact that eHow articles are much shorter and easier to complete.
Although I am a few days behind now, I still think I can get it done. I created a new blog to document this little experiment.
Keep us updated!

Sweet! If you want me to include your information in my weekly updates posts, let me know. I plan to post the first week’s results on Saturday.
BTW – Have you noticed if your earnings are down this month at all?

WAY DOWN! I think it has to do with the way they changed the ad layout. Have you noticed that every article has an “All Things Related” right below your introduction and before your steps? If the reader makes it to the bottom of the article, then you have a chance of getting a click. Weird structure if you ask me!

I actually didn’t realize they changed the ad layout. That kinda stinks. That kind of move may make people want to leave.
My eHow funds are up this month compared to last month at this time. It has really picked up this month!
To the person who mentioned getting permission from photo copyright holders, there are millions of photos out there that are copyright free. Just like at sxc.hu or any site like that. You can get pictures right away without asking for permission. Those are good to use on eHow as well. Here’s an article that I wrote about several different sites like this: http://onlinepublishing.suite101.com/article.cfm/free_pictures_without_copyright

@LS Thanks for that link. I’d seen the site a while back but never bookmarked it and forgot about it! I liked your article – Picapp looks very interesting as a particluar article I wrote was about a bass player. I ended up using the CC licensed image off Wiki.
I got a trifle confused about the images that Triond were talking about, and thought they wanted pics within articles. In fact, they add a thumbnail image on their listings page for each article (which doesn’t appear in the article itself). Triond used to generate the image, and now they have changed the rule so that the author does that. So in fact, I was fussing over nothing!

My eHow earnings have been down as well so far. They are starting to pick back up though. The last two weeks of July I was averaging around $22.00 a day. I am currently only averaging $20.36 a day for August. However, after a little research I realized that all is not bad. My first two weeks of July I only averaged $14.56 a day! So as long as the second half of August picks up, I should beat last months earnings!
